Brings variety and silly fun to the game without any major change of rules, in order to keep the simplicity of the game and allow for a quick setup and initiation. During the race around the island, it is now possible to recruit various characters in the inns of the different harbors you're visiting, in order to improve your crew. A member of your crew occupies a hold - as does gold, powder or food - and gives you special powers as well as potentially more gold by the end of the game.
