Anime North 2017

by Nate T on March 11, 2017

WoodForSheep is headed back to Anime North, from May 26 to May 28, 2017. This year, on top of our great demo library that we bring for participants to try, we are also running "Play to Win" demo sessions, and raffling off a few more games. This year, we also have several tables available for Role Playing Games.

"Play to Win" (PTW) demo sessions - try a game, and be entered to a raffle to win that game! This year's selection include: Hop, King of Tokyo, Mad City, Saboteur, The Game, Stratos, Say Anything and Santorini. You must be present at the raffle draw to claim the prize. See the schedule below for "Play to Win" sessions.

Try your hand as a fighter, a rogue or a wizard in the world's greatest roleplaying game, Dungeons & Dragons (D&D). Or, if mechs are your cup of tea, pilot your way to victory in Battletech (Saturday only). Participants will get a ticket for a raffle, for a chance at a copy of the D&D Starter Set or Player's Handbook (must be present at the raffle draw to claim the prize).

  • DDIA06 - an introductory adventure in the world of Dungeons and Dragons
  • DDAL06-01 - Tier 1 adventure - description to come
  • DDAL06-02 - Tier 1 adventure - description to come
  • DDEP06-01 - a multi-table adventure
  • DDAL Tier 1 - Tier 1 adventure from previous seasons

Raffle - for every $10 spent at the WoodForSheep booth (or on online orders picked up at the convention), receive a ticket to be entered to a raffle where we'll be giving away 1 copy of the following games (separate draws for each game): Abaddon, Lord of the Rings Dice Buidling Game and Krosmaster Arena. Non-winning raffle tickets from "Play to Win" will also be eligible. And yes, you must be present at the raffle draw to claim the prize.

Empty spots in the schedule below are available, to try other games from the WoodForSheep library.

When the guns come out, the bullets do all the talking.

A band of hardened criminals heads back to the warehouse to split the take - but everyone disagrees on just how to split the loot. Tempers flare and bullets fly as everyone fights for their piece of the pie. Draw your weapon or hit the floor, because only the gutsiest crooks are leaving here with the money! That is, unless they leave in a bag…

  • Date: Sunday, March 12, 2017 @ 3PM
  • Cost: $10 ($9 for Flock members)
  • Maximum # of participants: 16
  • Participants are expected to be familiar with the rules of the game

If there are 10 or more participants, a raffle will be held for a 'slightly used' copy of Cash N guns. Additional prizes may be added based on number of participants.

Don't know how to play? Drop by the centre before the tournament (either an hour or a few days before), and we'll be happy to teach.

The Imperial Assault skirmish game is an exciting experience in which two players create armies using their favorite Star Wars characters. The armies then face each other on the battlefield in a winner-takes-all skirmish mission.

One unique element of the skirmish game is that players can build their own personalized armies. This allows them to control their experience and see how their own ideas and strategies stack up against different foes.

Army building has players not only choose the figures in their armies, but also which Command cards they wish to use. Command cards have a wide range of special abilities, and add suspense and unexpected tactics.

Different combinations of figures and Command cards create wildly divergent experiences and open up unique strategies. Players can discover unexpected synergies, plan daring gambits, and feel more invested in their armies.

  • Date: Sunday, March 19, 2017 @ 3PM
  • Cost: $10 ($9 for Flock members)
  • Maximum # of participants: 16
  • Participants are expected to be familiar with the rules of the game
  • Participants are expected to bring their own complete Skirmish army (40 point build + 15 command cards), as well as the requisite components to build the various maps.
  • Format: All participants will play 3-4 rounds of one-versus-one Swiss pairings (depending on number of participants). Players will be ranked based on wins and tiebreakers.
  • Prizes: Participants will be given a core prize card. Top 4 winners will then have the opportunity to draft elite prize cards or elite prize item/set (depending on availability). Additional prizes may be added based on number of participants.

Take the game play and excitement of the original and adapt it for one-on-one battles. Take control of your civilization and decide to invest in science, military or prestige.

Feb 2017 Math Trade

by Nate T on February 01, 2017

All the details here.

Quick Summary

To participate, you will need

Key dates & times:

  • Want Lists Deadline: Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at 11:00pm
  • Results: Will be posted ASAP after the Want List Deadline.
  • Drop-off: Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 3:00PM to 3:30PM
  • Pick-up: Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 3:30PM to 4:00PM

What is a Math Trade?

Math Trades provide gamers with a way to trade away unwanted games for other players' unwanted games. All participants submit their list of games available for trade, and which titles they're willing to received in return (for each submitted game).

How does it work?

Ummm... This is where it can get complicated to explain. So let's use an example.

Miss Heart owns Game Green that just doesn't get played as much anymore. She puts it up for trade. Mr. Square has Game Orange that's also up for trade, that Miss Heart is interested in. Unfortunately, Mr. Square is not too keen on Game Green. In this case, no trade would occur.

But, what if Miss Heart can exchange Game Green into a game that Mr. Square would trade for? Like Miss Diamond's Game Gray. Miss Diamond isn't big into Game Green either, but would be interested in Mr. Circle's Game Yellow. Mr. Circle is interested in Game Green, and is willing to trade Game Yellow to Miss Heart for Game Green.

Miss Heart then swaps games with Miss Diamond (so she's now in possession of Game Gray), and now can go to Mr. Square for the Game Orange she really wants.

Now, take that above example, increased to multiple more opportunities and possibilities, and let a computer figure that all out... and that's a Math Trade.

Ok, I think I get it. So now what?

With your boardgamegeek account, you can put together a list of games you own, and are willing to part with. This will be open to everyone up until the "Submission deadline" (see Quick Summary).

Once the "Submission deadline" passes, everyone can see all the games that are available for trade, and you can then submit a "want list" for your games (ex. Game Green, which you own, for Game Orange). It's also possible that there are no games you're willing to take back, for a game you own, in which case you would submit a blank "want list".

After the "Want Lists Deadline" passes, we let the computer crunch the numbers and see what trades do occur. You'll be informed of the games you need to submit, and which ones you'll be receiving. Then its a matter of dropping by the Game Centre to say good bye to old games, and bringing home new titles.

Pandemic Survival

by Nate T on December 20, 2016

FIND THE CURES OR SURVIVE?

Pandemic Survival is an extreme version of Pandemic where teams of 2 players face each other simultaneously with the same objective in mind: be the first team to find all four cures or be the sole survivor at the end of the game.

During this unique experience, each team will face the same starting situation: identical roles, infected cities, and the same player cards in the same order. Only their strategic choices will differentiate them and prove to be a winning or losing strategy.
